This all-purpose glue is Mod Podge!
What is Mod Podge?
In simple words, Mod Podge is an all-purpose glue with a formula that helps in keeping things intact quite firmly, unlike regular glue. It is a craft supply that is used especially in decoupage. When we break down the name ‘Mod Podge,’ we see it comes from two different words. These two words are modern and decoupage.
If you want to get technical, Mod Podge is a polymer formed of polyvinyl acetate, a synthetic resin created by polymerizing vinyl acetate and primarily used in paints and adhesives. It is white, has a medium viscosity, and has a creamy texture. There are many different formulas of mod podge. These different formulas are to be used in different kinds of projects, but they all serve the same purpose, i.e., keep the project pieces intact and give them the required shape. A few formulas are thicker than others. It dries clear and is simple to paint over.
Apart from the basic function of keeping things together, mod podge performs other functions as well. The all-purpose name glue is there for a reason. This glue can perform two more functions besides providing the basic function. This glue, in total, gives three functions. These three functions are;
Glue
This is the basic function. This makes it possible for the project pieces to stay together and keep their shape intact.
Seal
It can also be used as a coating after the project is completed. This gives it a coat to seal the work that is done.
Finish
It can also be used to give some final touches to the project.
Usage of Mod Podge
Due to its multiple formulas, mod podge can be used in many projects. These projects can differ and do not need to be similar. This means the surfaces on which mod podge can be used can be of various types. This makes it all the handier. The surfaces that mod podge can be used on are;

- Fabrics/cloths

- Plastics (some, not all)
Is Mod Podge waterproof?
Mod podge is made of certain ingredients that give it water-resistant abilities. The ingredients are selected so that when they combine, water-resistant abilities arise. This combination may be water-resistant, but it is not completely waterproof. So to answer the question, is mod podge waterproof? No, it is not. It is water resistant but not waterproof. This means that a few drops of water will not harm the project and can easily be cleared away, but if the project falls into a pool, it will not survive.
This means that if you have a project where it needs to stay in watery conditions, mod podge will not be able to protect it. On the other hand, if you have a product that needs to come into contact with water only sometimes and only a little, then mod podge is the thing to go for.

There are multiple types of mod podge. They all serve the same basic function, i.e., keeping your project intact. The difference lies in the formulas and how they can be used differently on different surfaces to give the same function. The different types of mod podge are;

Most water-resistant formula
The most water-resistant formula is the outdoor formula. As the name suggests, it is used for outdoor projects. This is for projects that need to be outdoors during completion or, more importantly, after completion. This formula might not be waterproof, but it is highly resistant to water. This makes it the most suitable option to be used if you fear that your project might get ruined by water. Another important detail of this formula is that it is thicker compared to other formulas, which gives it more water-resistant abilities and also makes it more durable.
Mod podge is not waterproof, but it is highly water-resistant and combining this with its functions makes it a highly useful and must-have product!
